Prof. Dr. Christian Ledig

Prof. Christian Ledig is a full professor at the University of Bamberg where he holds the chair of Explainable Machine Learning. He and his team are focused on translating explainable and robust machine learning approaches into practice (especially in healthcare).

Before joining the University of Bamberg he was working in the US startup industry. In those roles he was leading teams which successfully built revolutionary AI-driven, FDA-regulated medical systems that can improve diagnoses in radiography and dentistry.

He has over 10 years of research expertise in the fields of machine learning, computer vision and medical image analysis. Throughout his career Prof. Ledig published and contributed to several book chapters and more than 50 peer-reviewed research articles which were cited more than 20,000 times. Christian Ledig is a regular reviewer for some of the most prestigious journals and conferences in the field of AI and computer science in general, such as the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR).

Previously, he was a Sr Researcher at Twitter in London, UK, where he was working on patented image super-resolution techniques to improve user experiences.


Christian Ledig obtained a PhD degree from Imperial College London and a diploma (Dipl.- Technomath.) from the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. He was affiliated as Visiting Researcher with the Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School as well as with the University of Cambridge, UK.
