Scientific Instrumentation (M.Sc.)
Master's degree programme
The online application platform is now open. The deadline for applications has been extended until April 30 2024!
The Scientific Instrumentation programme offered at the Jena University of Applied Sciences is designed to prepare the student for employment in research and development focusing on technical and scientific instruments or processes. The aim is to enable students to design and develop scientific instruments on their own initiative and to manage and coordinate research and development projects.
For more than a century now, Jena has been known as a technological centre specialising in the development and production of scientific instruments. Both the industry and the research institutes based in this city are involved in applied physics, physics technology, optics, precision engineering, measurement technology, sensor engineering, micro- and nanotechnology and medical engineering.
The development of high-tech processes and cutting-edge measurement techniques and instruments are crucial to industrial competitiveness.
The master course Scientific Instrumentation is taught in English language.
The Scientific Instrumentation programme is a postgraduate course of study. It presupposes the completion of the precision engineering or physics engineering Bachelor's degree programmes or other courses of study in physics or engineering sciences.
The title Master of Science (M.Sc.) will be conferred upon successful completion of the studies.
Master's graduates in Scientific Instrumentation will be qualified to work in industry, in research institutes or as engineering consultants. With their broad knowledge in engineering physics as well as in precision engineering they are especially prepared to perform interdisciplinary work. Their strength is in the application of science knowledge to engineering problems.
A Master's graduate in Scientific Instrumentation will be able to be the link between pure scientists and engineers in an interdisciplinary workgroup. He or she will be prepared to cope with new application problems by being trained in systematic analysis and diagnosis of a problem as well as in methods of prescribing solutions.
