Deutschlandticket for students in winter semester 2024/25

In November 2023, the federal and state governments agreed to offer a standardised nationwide Deutschlandticket for students at a price of 29.40 euros per month.

On 22 May 2024, the majority of the EAH Jena Student Council voted in favour of implementation of the Deutschlandticket for students, meaning that the Deutschlandticket will also be available to students at Ernst Abbe University Jena for the first time at the start of the 2024/25 winter semester.

What does this mean for students at the University of Applied Sciences Jena?

With the launch of the Deutschlandticket on 1 October 2024, the previous semester ticket will be replaced. As a result, the travel authorisation or the e-ticket in your THOSKA will be declared invalid on 30 September 2024.

The Deutschlandticket upgrade offer will no longer be available for purchase from winter semester 2024/25. You should only use existing Deutschlandticket upgrades - if you wish - until 30 September 2024. Please also contact the provider of the Deutschlandticket upgrade in good time and ask whether you actually have to cancel it on 30 September.

The Deutschlandticket can be used from 1 October 2024 by all students enrolled at the EAH Jena (except part-time and guest students). By paying the respective semester fee (or the share for the Deutschlandticket and the Kulturticket) in the course of enrolment/re-registration, students are authorised to use the Deutschlandticket.

From 15 September 2024 at the latest, the responsible transport company will provide an online platform for retrieving the Deutschlandticket. As soon as this has been done, students newly enrolled or re-registered for the winter semester 2024/25 will be able to access the Deutschlandticket via this online platform for use during the winter semester (01.10.2024 - 31.03.2025).

After logging in with the user name and password of the university account, the first step is to check whether the respective user is a student authorised to use the ticket via the Shibboleth service. To generate and provide the ticket, the student's first and last name, date of birth, a valid email address and the semester of ticket authorisation are transmitted to the transport company as personal data.

The Deutschlandticket is issued as a mobile phone ticket in the MeinJena app. In exceptional cases, the Deutschlandticket can also be issued as an electronic ticket (eFAW) on a chip card upon personal request at the Stadtwerke Jena customer centre. We will inform you as soon as we have further details on how to retrieve the Deutschlandticket.

As the Deutschlandticket will replace the Semesterticket from winter semester 2024, both imprints - "Semesterticket" and "Validity period" - will become invisible when your student ID card (THOSKA) is validated for winter semester 2024/25.The e-ticket stored in the student ID card (THOSKA) itself will remain valid until 30 September 2024 (despite the validation for the winter semester 2024/25). Please note, however, that the e-ticket can only be read in Jena, but not in Erfurt, for example. The transport companies have been informed accordingly by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen. To avoid misunderstandings, we still recommend that you validate the THOSKA as late as possible for the winter semester 2024/25.
