Midwifery
Bachelor of Science
As a midwife, you are responsible for providing comprehensive health care for people during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period and breastfeeding. In doing so, midwives work closely with members of other health care professions and medicine. Midwifery-specific health care is provided in different care settings: in midwifery practices and birth centres, in clinics of different levels of care, in gynaecological practices and also home settings.
In inpatient primary care during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding, you can work, for example, in the antenatal clinic, on the prepartum ward, in the (midwife-led) delivery room, on the maternity ward (mother-child unit), in the breastfeeding outpatient clinic, in the parenting school and also as a study midwife.
In outpatient care, for example, you can provide out-of-hospital or clinical midwife-led obstetric care and work as a course instructor.
You can further qualify for psychosocial or educational activities and work as a family midwife or practice supervisor.
In addition, you can be active in professional politics in professional associations or work as academic staff at universities and participate in midwifery research and teaching.
