Master of Arts
The prerequisite for the degree programme is
- a Bachelor's, Magister or Diplom degree in a relevant undergraduate degree programme at a higher education institution. In addition to the BA Social Work or Social Sciences, other courses of study are considered relevant, e.g. Education, Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, Cultural Sciences, Humanities, Economics, Law or Behavioural Sciences.
- The submission of a letter expressing the motivation for the degree programme.
- Submission of the complete application documents (see "Documents checklist").
- Once you have submitted the required documents, you will take part in the aptitude test. If you achieve a total of at least 45 out of a maximum of 100 points to be awarded, you have proven your suitability for successful study.
You will receive points in the aptitude test
- for the final grade of your first academic degree,
- for the presentation of your motivation to study and furthermore
- for practical and subject-related qualifications acquired (outside) of higher education.
You can find out how many points are awarded for which final grade and for the other qualifications related to the degree programme and the letter of motivation in the points catalogue in the Regulations on the Qualification Procedure (Annex 1 to the Programme-Specific Regulations, see download area).
Please submit your practical and subject-related qualifications acquired (outside of) higher education with your application documents for consideration in the aptitude test. Practical professional or civil society skills and expertise in dealing with democracy work that have been acquired since the beginning of vocational training/previous studies will be recognised. Activities within the framework of relevant professional activity or through professional internships, relevant civil society commitment and (extra)university (research) internships, as well as corresponding further and advanced training are taken into account. Corresponding proof is required. Credit is awarded on the basis of the criteria stated in the Regulations on the Qualification Procedure § 4, Para. 3, 2.
The Master's programme Civic Education. Democracy Work in a Digitalised Society is successfully completed with 90 ECTS.
As a rule, applicants with a Bachelor's degree of 180 ECTS receive a special study plan to make up 30 ECTS points. This can be waived by mutual agreement. If this is the case, you will complete your Master's degree with 270 ECTS points.

2. Bewerbungsantrag hinzufügen und Daten elektronisch eingeben (ggf. auch Nachweise hochladen)
Logge dich im Bewerbungsportal mit deinen Zugangsdaten ein. Unter dem Menüpunkt „Bewerbung hinzufügen“ hast du als erstes die Möglichkeit, den Masterstudiengang zu wählen, für welchen du dich bewerben möchtest. Während der Eingabe der Daten wirst du einige digitale Nachweise hochladen müssen. Halte am besten alle notwendigen Dokumente in elektronischer Form bereit.
3. Bewerbungsantrag elektronisch abgeben
Am Ende der Online-Bewerbung bestätigst du die Richtigkeit deiner elektronischen Angaben, indem du an der entsprechenden Stelle ein Häkchen setzt und deinen Bewerbungsantrag fristgemäß ausschließlich elektronisch abgibst. Du kannst maximal drei Bewerbungsanträge für Masterstudiengänge abgeben.
4. Eignungsverfahren
Dein Bewerbungsantrag wird zunächst auf Vollständigkeit geprüft. Sofern dein Bewerbungsantrag samt Bewerbungsunterlagen vollständig ist, wird dieser der zuständigen Eignungskommission im jeweiligen Fachbereich zur Prüfung freigegeben.
Im Eignungsverfahren wird geprüft, ob du alle Voraussetzungen für den Zugang zum gewünschten Masterstudiengang erfüllst.
5. Ergebnis des Eignungsverfahrens
Nach durchgeführtem Eignungsverfahren übermitteln wir dir das Ergebnis in Form eines elektronischen Bescheides. Bitte prüfe daher regelmäßig dein E-Mail-Postfach bzw. logge dich im Bewerbungsportal ein, um den Status deiner Bewerbung zu erfahren.
6. Immatrikulation digital beantragen (sofern ein Zulassungsangebot vorliegt)
Nach Erhalt des elektronischen Zulassungsbescheides nimmst du als erstes im Bewerbungsportal den im gewünschten Masterstudiengang angebotenen Studienplatz an (Menüpunkt: Studienplatz annehmen). Anschließend beantragst du elektronisch die Immatrikulation (Menüpunkt Immatrikulation beantragen).
Dazu gibst du über das Immatrikulationsportal weitere für die Immatrikulation notwendige Daten elektronisch ein. Diese Angaben werden auf Grundlage von HStatG abgefragt und müssen vollständig eingegeben werden. Nach dem Eingeben der Daten gelangst du mit dem Anklicken von „Erfassung der Immatrikulationsdaten abschließen“ zurück in das Bewerbungsportal, wo du schließlich den PDF-Immatrikulationsantrag für den beantragten Studiengang findest.
7. Immatrikulationsantrag samt Unterlagen postalisch an die EAH Jena senden
Bitte drucke den Antrag auf Immatrikulation (PDF) aus und unterschreibe diesen. Anschließend solltest du ihn zusammen mit allen für die Immatrikulation notwendigen Unterlagen (siehe Unterlagencheckliste auf dem Antrag) postalisch an die auf dem Antrag auf Immatrikulation angegebene Anschrift innerhalb der im Antrag angegebenen Immatrikulationsfrist senden.

8. Immatrikulation erfolgt
Sobald die Immatrikulationsunterlagen an der EAH Jena postalisch eingegangen sind und die Einschreibung erfolgt ist, erhältst du vom Master Service der Hochschule postalisch ein Starterpaket mit folgenden Unterlagen.
Application documents specific to the degree programme:
- University entrance qualification
- Letter of motivation, max. two pages
- Curriculum vitae
- If applicable, proof of civil society activity relevant to the degree programme (up to 200 hours / over 200 hours)
- If applicable, proof of professional experience relevant to the degree programme (in full-time equivalents (FTE) of the standard working hours: up to one year / over one year)
- If applicable, proof of (extra-) academic (research) internships relevant to the degree programme (in FTE of the standard working hours: four weeks to two months / more than two months)
- If applicable, proof of further and continuing education relevant to the degree programme (from 30-60 hours / more than 60 hours)
- If applicable, proof of academic experience (term papers and theses relevant to the degree programme & specialist publications relevant to the degree programme)
When applying online, the following documents must be submitted electronically in the aptitude procedure for consecutive Master's degree programmes (in PDF format, max. 1000 kb per proof):
- Bachelor's degree completed
- Copy of the Bachelor's or Diploma certificate
- Copy of the Bachelor's or Diploma certificate
- Copy of the detailed overview of subjects or achievements in addition to the Bachelor's degree certificate
- Copy of the exmatriculation certificate
- Bachelor's degree not yet completed
- Copy of the detailed overview of subjects or achievements with the preliminary overall grade (without Bachelor thesis and, if applicable, without defence)
- Copy of the current certificate of study

After successful online application and admission to the desired degree programme, you apply for enrolment electronically and then send the enrolment documents (see below) to the university by post.

- current copy of your passport or identity document
- Bank statement with proof of payment of the semester fee
- An electronic notification of your health insurance status. Please contact your health insurance company so that they can send us the required M10 notification electronically. Please quote the sender number of the Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena H0001255.
- Proof of completion of the Bachelor's degree:
- Officially certified copy of the Bachelor's certificate as well as the Bachelor's degree certificate (if you are studying at EAH Jena for the first time) or
- a simple copy of the Bachelor's certificate (if you have already completed your Bachelor's degree at EAH Jena).
- Copy of the exmatriculation certificate
Note: If the documents on the completion of the Bachelor's degree are not yet available, please send a subject and performance overview with an overall grade. If this is also not yet available, you can also use this form to provide confirmation of the successful completion of the Bachelor's degree programme.
1. you can have certifications made, for example, by municipal authorities (e.g. city council), health insurance companies or a notary. Otherwise, if you submit your application documents to us in person, you can bring along your original certificates and show them to us.
In your own interest, please make sure that the documents you submit are complete, otherwise your application for enrollment may be processed with a time delay.
